Listeners want their Radio on the Cell Phones

Forget HD Radio, the real dawning opportunity is your cell phone.

See the results of this survey:

About 40 percent of 1,000 phone users between 13 and 34 years old would be very interested in commercial-free radio over their mobile phone, the survey said. Nearly 35 percent of those surveyed showed an interest in wireless music downloads.

The story of our industry will increasingly be the story of control moving from the radio station to the listener - just as control has moved from the music label to the music fan.

We had better broaden the definition of our industry to include this more enlightened notion or we will be competing for an ever-diminishing pie rather than an ever-increasing one.
